A 5-axis milling machine has 2 additional axes of motion. The 2 additional axes are rotary and allow the mill to reach areas not possible with a 3-axis machine.

 

5-axis machining is a means to speed manufacturing ability and increase repeatable accuracy. The ability of the 5-axis machining process to create complex shapes in a single setup reduces tooling cost and labor time, resulting in much better precision along with lower cost per part and the ability to maintain parts conformity after the first part in future runs.
